With the release of the Palm Pre and its new webOS platform, we thought we had seen the last of the Palm OS-based devices. However, as it seems, the contrary is true. Palm, for the record, won’t be releasing any new Palm OS devices, but Aceeca will. They’ve bought a license to use the said OS on two of their upcoming handsets - the Aceeca PDA32 Garnet and the MEZ1500 Garnet. The PDA32 Garnet reportedly comes with an ARM processor, QVGA screen, SD card lot, and a supposed price tag of over $199 exclusive of wireless options. As far as its looks are concerned, we don’t have a picture of it yet, but they say it’s “taller than a Palm TX” and is a bit on the hefty side as it’s also “about twice as thick.”
The MEZ1500 Garnet, meanwhile, resembles the Samsung BlackJack and targets the corporate segment of the market. It packs a faster processor, bigger battery, QVGA display, expansion slot for optional accessories, and will retail for $499. WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity is available at an additional cost. For those not too keen on the outdated Palm OS, both handsets will be released with Windows CE variants as well.
