In a somewhat surprising move, Intel and Nokia announced at the MWC that they’ll be teaming up in developing MeeGo, a new mobile platform that’ll be the lovechild of Maemo (Nokia) and Moblin (Intel). Details about it are still pretty scarce at the moment, but we already have one confirmed upcoming device that’ll feature this spanking brand new mobile OS.
It’s none other than the LG GW990 that was showcased last month at CES. We still don’t know when it will exactly be released, but it should be out by the 2H of this year. Now that we’ve got one Moblin-based device on board, will Nokia follow suite and unleash their own MeeGo-based device as well? Given Nokia’s track record, it’s highly unlikely, but we certainly wouldn’t mind if they did.
One thing’s for sure though, the mobile OS war is definitely heating up with the announcement of MeeGo.
